Just the Two of Us

November 4, 2012

We had a few hours together. We made cookies out of sand. We added rocks and bark for chocolate chips. We picked a pomegranate and talked about hyperbole. She had a bun with butter, cheese, lentil soup, and a hot dog for lunch. We sang songs and she danced. She asked for “Kanaka Wai Wai” to be played again. She took a nap. Thank goodness she took a nap. We went to the swings and bars. She asked for an undercrocodile with no chomping. We rode the big swings sideways like horsies; she laughed when I tried to kiss her. She climbed to the top of the bars and asked to go higher. When we made art out of pine needles she expressed disappointment in my chicken. I tried again, and she approved. It seems like an afternoon I might forget, so I’m writing it down here to remember.
